The Harley-Davidson 1911 red porcelain enameled advertising signs are authentic reproductions that utilize the same process popularized in the early 1900’s. Each piece of steel (not tin) is cut and prepared to receive the colors by a process called pickling.

The colors are not paints, but finely ground glass crystals (porcelain enamels), which when kiln fired at 1350 F fuse to the heavy 18 gauge steel plate. Each color is applied by direct screen application and fired separately creating a durable, lustrous, and rust resistant product.
